FREEwilliamsburg » MMNY Williamsburgers and Wieners BBQ Block Party
As we mentioned yesterday, today is the Sixth Annual Make Music New York celebration. With hundreds of musical acts performing in the streets until 10PM, you may feel a bit lost as to where to begin. Here’s a great event to hit up: The Sixth Annual Williamsburgers and Wieners BBQ Block Party.
The event begins at 4PM and is held in the garden patio of Cyn Lounge, “so that the music spills out onto the sidewalk, and the dancing in the street” (did “Dancin’ in the Street” just start playing in your head too?).
FREE burgers and hot dogs will be served (while supplies last) with drink specials until 10PM.
The block party’s line-up includes:
Avi Wisnia
Golden Bloom
David Ladon of The Doctors Fox
Wojcik
Shira
3dCosby
The Great Apes
Prostitution
The Working Effective
…and many more!
So head over to Cyn Lounge at 4PM for free food, drink specials, and awesome live music (and maybe even some dancin’ in the streets – woo!). Happy Make Music New York day!

FREEwilliamsburg: 4th Annual Punk Rope Games
FREEwilliamsburg » 4th Annual Punk Rope Games
Rope on, Punk! Punk Rope is a team activity that is a “cross between recess and boot camp, which blends rope jumping, fitness games, and creative calisthenics.” Sounds too fitness-y for you? Think again. This isn’t just any athletic field day. No, no. There are rubber chickens involved. Yes, rubber chickens, used in the 1-on-1 Rubber Chicken Toss and the Rubber Chicken Relay. Other items on the agenda include Punk-Ups, Spoons, and Double Unders. There is also an activity reminiscent of day-camp color-wars – writing a Team Fight Song (try to think beyond “We’ve got spirit yes we do, we’ve got spirit how about YOU!”).
The Punk Rope Games will take place Sunday, June 24 from 10AM – 1PM, rain or shine, at the William Sheridan Playground between Wythe Ave & Berry St and Grand St & South 1st St here on our very own turf, Williamsburg. Teams must consist of 4 members, so choose your teammates wisely – nobody wants dead weight during the Long Rope. And like any competition, there will be crowned winners and an accompanying Awards Ceremony/After Party at Crown Victoria Bar (60 S. 2nd St between Kent & Wythe Ave) from 1:30PM – 4PM, with food & drink specials for competitors and fans alike.
So gather up your fittest friends, start writing that victorious Team Fight Song, and register for the 4th Annual Punk Rope Games! May the odds be ever in your favor.

FREEwilliamsburg: Leslie Knope to Attend City Council Meeting?
FREEwilliamsburg » Leslie Knope to Attend City Council Meeting?
It appears as though Brooklyn Councilman Brad Lander thinks that he could teach newly-elected councilwoman Leslie Knope (aka Amy Poehler of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation”) a thing or two. Lander wrote a congratulatory letter to Ms. Knope in May inviting her to “spend a day as a Council Member of the City of New York,” stating that he “can provide [her] with valuable insight into the role of a City Council member.”

While explaining what goes into a typical day of a Councilman, he mentions a key incentive – Knope will not run into her nemesis department, the library: “you will definitely love that our local library has been closed for years due to construction (no librarians around here, lately).”
Lander closes by hitting her soft spot – officiating the marriage of Penguins: “if you have any spare time during your visit, I know of two very enamored penguins at the Prospect Park Zoo who have been waiting for the right officiant to get married.”
Clearly Mr. Lander’s letter was a joke. But let’s join him in rallying for Ms. Knope to come to Brooklyn and bring Pawnee’s magic with her!

FREEwilliamsburg: Lightbulb-Eating Magician Arrested for Robbing Brooklyn Banks
FREEwilliamsburg » Lightbulb-Eating Magician Arrested for Robbing Brooklyn Banks

From The New York Times:

From The New York Times:
"A self-described magician and escapist who once set a record for eating a household light bulb in fewer than 34 seconds was arrested and charged with committing a string of Brooklyn bank robberies."Being a magician doesn’t guarantee you’ll be any good at robbing banks. This particular bank robber, Robert J. Williams, 22, also holds the record for eating a light bulb at an incredible speed (33.86 seconds, as per recordsetter.com) – truly a man of many talents. Perhaps he thought he could get away with these robberies by eating the cash, or making it magically vanish? Whatever the case, he was arrested Wednesday, June 6. Brooklyn banks are now safe from the magical robber.
