Fitness Tips From Celebrity Dance Trainer, Jaana Kunitz!: SELF.com

When I agreed to attend celebrity dance trainer Jaana Kunitz's fitness demo, I expected to sit back, relax, watch her demonstrate moves and listen to work-out tips. I definitely was not expecting what actually went down. In short, I learned 2 things about dance: 1. It's hard, and 2. It's an even harder work out!

Jaana, a cute, bubbly woman with an insane body (think Britney Spears circa 2000) doesn't make dance fitness look easy; she makes it look effortless! So when I got up to test out her seemingly simple moves, the results were...well, let's just say that I'm no Karina Smirnoff. Jaana is a former professional competitive dancer who has trained dancers from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With the Stars, whereas I have been struck with the awkward dancing gene. But regardless of how I looked, I felt my muscles burning within 30 seconds of movement.

That's the best part about Jaana's brand of fitness; you don't need to be a dancer to reap the benefits! As a an exercise addict, I always make sure to be aware of the muscles that I'm using so I get everything out of a move that I possibly can. Jaana's philosophy is the same; learning choreography and dancing is certainly exercise in its own right, but when you know that a hip-swivel breaks down to a tight core, tucked abs and alternating extension of obliques, dance becomes a whole different beast. Throughout the class, I morphed squats and crunches into Travolta-esque disco moves, booty-bounces straight out of a Jay-Z video, and sexy salsa moves--all while toning my muscles!

Jaana's newest fitness DVD, Xtreme Cardio Dance, is a great way to add some spice into your workout routine and have fun in the process! For some clips from this morning's demo, check out the video below:
