SELFy Do-Gooder: Ryan Star: SELF.com

Unemployed? Know someone who is? We all know how hopeless the job search can feel right now--I know I do! But no one seems to be doing anything to help out individuals. That is, except for Ryan Star.

In his new music video for "Breathe," singer/songwriter Ryan Star spotlights 12 individuals who, despite up to 34 years of experience, remain hopelessly unemployed. In the video, each person is shown holding up a sign advertising themself with messages such as "Jacob. Unemployed Licensed Social Worker. Eager to Change the World!" and "Good at my job."

Star told me that one of his unemployed friends along with observation of the struggling cities he passed through while on tour served as the inspiration for this video. "Breathe" is one of those special songs that mysteriously seems to strike a chord in everyone, so while drafting ideas for the video, he took the opportunity to do something meaningful (and, after all, a flashy music video with scantily-clad girls shaking their booties in the camera didn't quiiite fit).

By far, the coolest part about this video is that Star is using his video's exposure to help these people find jobs! Potential employers can visit www.breathe4jobs.com to directly contact each individual. It's a really incredible thing that Ryan has done, so check out the music video for "Breathe" below, help spread the word and let's find these people jobs!
